Uni Societies
Author: Daniel Scaramuzza
Welcome back everyone,
Today's Uni Lifestyle blog post will be covering one of the (personally) most exciting things about uni, the 'Uni Societies'!
To explain it, societies are basically clubs or groups created by other members of your university that are truly interested in a hobby or culture, so that they can invite and meet other people to make friends with who share the same love for your hobby.
If you really want to, you could make a society based on literally anything, from sports and recreational activities to something as basic as food, music or video games. For example, I'm a part of the MQ LoL Society, which is a society for all the people of Macquarie University who play the video game 'League of Legends'. The society was made at the beginning of this year and I only first joined in semester 2 during Macquarie's O Week (Orientation Week). O Week allows all of the uni's societies to introduce what they do and gather new members who are interested.
Since joining MQ LoL, I've made so many new friends who share the same interests as I do, and I would've never met them if it weren't for this society.
So you're probably wondering, what do societies even do? Well they usually hold weekly meetups and events based on what the society is about. For example a basketball society would invite the members to play a for fun match during meetups, and possibly hold a serious match where teams could win prizes as an event. In general, societies are created so that people with common interests can meet others, make friends and have a fun time doing what you enjoy.
